Installation method

The rotary encoder has built-in bearings and stators, and the encoder's circular grating is directly connected to the measured shaft. The scanning unit is installed on the shaft through ball bearings and supported by a stator coupling. When the shaft undergoes angular acceleration, the stator coupling must only absorb the torque caused by bearing friction, thus minimizing static and dynamic measurement errors to the greatest extent possible. Moreover, the coupling installed on the stator can compensate for the axial movement of the measured shaft. Other advantages of stator couplings include:

  • Simple installation

  • Short overall length

  • The natural frequency of the coupling is high

  • Allow the use of hollow shafts

    The rotary encoder with built-in bearings is connected by a separate coupling and can be used for solid shafts. The recommended coupling for connecting the tested shaft can compensate for radial and axial errors. The angle encoder using a separated coupling can support higher shaft speeds.

    The rotary encoder without built-in bearings operates without friction. The scanning head, circular grating, grating drum, or steel strip can be adjusted separately during assembly.
